Terms of service
These terms govern your use of TutMeet, operated by TutMeet ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. This page describes how the service actually works; it is not a substitute for professional legal advice. Version 2026-10-21 — when you create an account, we record that you accepted the current version of these terms, the privacy policy and the community guidelines (the date and version are stored on your account); if the terms change materially, we will ask you to accept the new version before continuing.
1. What the service is — and what it is not
TutMeet is a marketplace and intermediary that lets students and parents discover tutors, post tutoring requirements, receive applications, exchange messages, request trial lessons and leave reviews. We are not a tutoring provider and not any tutor's employer, agent or representative: lessons are delivered by independent tutors, and any teaching agreement is solely between the student and the tutor.
Tutor verification means only the specific checks we actually perform — at minimum, email verification and a human review of the submitted profile, plus document checks where a profile shows a Verified badge for them. Verification is not a guarantee of a tutor's qualifications, teaching quality or lesson outcomes, and students and parents should use their own judgement, including starting with a trial lesson.
2. Accounts
- You must be an adult (18 or over) to hold an account. Parents and guardians hold accounts for lessons for children.
- You must provide accurate information, verify your email address, and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- One person, one account. Administrator accounts cannot be self-registered.
- We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or our community guidelines.
3. Tutor profiles and job posts
- Tutor profiles are reviewed before they become public. Review does not guarantee a tutor's qualifications or teaching quality.
- Listings must be truthful: no invented qualifications, experience, reviews or availability.
- We may edit, hide, reject or remove listings that are inaccurate, unsafe or against these terms.
- Tutors set their own rates. Lesson fees are agreed and paid directly between student and tutor; the platform charges no fee at launch (see Pricing and the Refund & cancellation policy).
4. Applications, messages and reviews
- A tutor may apply once to the same job. A tutor's first application on the platform is free; later applications cost Credits as described on the pricing page, and the credit refund rule on the refund policy page applies.
- Contact details shared through an application (for example a phone number revealed after applying) may be used only to arrange the lessons that application concerns. Harvesting, reselling or spamming contact details is prohibited and can lead to suspension.
- Platform administrators may review conversations for safety, moderation and dispute resolution, as described in the privacy policy.
- Messages are for arranging tutoring. Spam, harassment and off-topic solicitation are prohibited.
- Reviews must reflect a real, completed engagement through the platform and must be honest and relevant.
5. Rules for students and parents
- Post honest job requirements: real subject, level, schedule and budget. Do not post jobs you do not genuinely intend to fill.
- The contact number you put on a job is shown only to teachers who apply to that job. Use it for those lessons; do not ask teachers for unrelated personal information.
- Treat teachers with respect. Harassment, abuse, discriminatory messages or sexual content toward any user is prohibited and leads to suspension.
- Agree the fee, schedule and cancellation expectations with your tutor in writing (platform messages are ideal) before lessons begin, and pay lesson fees as agreed — fees are paid directly to the tutor; the platform is not part of that payment.
- Accounts are held by adults. For lessons for a child, the parent or guardian communicates with the tutor and should be present or nearby, especially for first lessons.
- Leave honest reviews based on real, completed engagements only.
6. Rules for teachers
- Your profile must be truthful: no invented qualifications, experience, reviews, results or availability. Misleading profiles are rejected or suspended.
- Apply only to jobs you are genuinely able and willing to teach. Your first application is free; later applications use Credits under the rules on the pricing page.
- When a student's number is revealed to you after you apply, you may use it only to arrange the lessons for that specific job. The contact-detail rules in section 7 apply in full.
- Conduct lessons professionally and safely; never request a child's own contact details — communicate with the account holder (the parent or guardian).
- Do not demand advance payments in ways that pressure students, and never ask for bank passwords, card details or one-time codes.
- Repeated no-shows, spam applications or misuse of the platform lead to suspension, and any remaining Credits are forfeited on suspension for misconduct (see section 7).
7. Contact details — strict rules
Contact details (including phone and WhatsApp numbers) are shared through this platform for one purpose only: arranging the lessons connected with the specific job and application that revealed them. By using the platform you agree that you will not:
- use a revealed number for marketing, advertising or promoting any other service;
- sell, share, publish or pass a revealed number to any third party;
- contact the person about anything unrelated to those lessons;
- harass, threaten, stalk or repeatedly message a person who has not replied or has asked you to stop.
Breaching these rules leads to immediate suspension, forfeiture of any remaining Credits, and — where the conduct may be unlawful (for example threats or stalking) — we may report it to the relevant authorities where the law requires or permits. Every reveal of a contact number through the platform is recorded in our audit log, and that record may be used when handling a complaint.
8. Reports, disputes and enforcement
- Any user can report a profile, job, message, conversation or another user from the relevant page, or via the contact page. Reports are reviewed by an administrator.
- Administrators may review platform conversations for safety, moderation and dispute resolution (see the privacy policy). Users can also block a conversation counterpart.
- Depending on what we find, we may warn the user, hide or remove content, suspend or close the account, and forfeit Credits on suspension for misconduct. Serious or repeated breaches are handled without prior warning.
- Disputes about lessons or lesson fees are between the student and the tutor — the platform is not a party to their agreement. We will, however, review platform records (messages, applications, reveal logs) when a complaint is made, and share our findings about platform conduct with the parties.
- If you believe a decision about your account was wrong, contact us with the details and we will review it once, on the record.
9. Acceptable use
You must not misuse the site: no unlawful content, fraud, impersonation, scraping that burdens the service, attempts to bypass security or access controls, or uploading harmful files. Private documents shared for verification must never be posted publicly.
10. Availability and changes
We work to keep the service available and secure, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. We may change features with reasonable notice; material changes to these terms will be shown on this page before they take effect where practical, and a new version will be offered for acceptance in your account settings.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law: because lessons are provided by independent tutors, we are not responsible for the quality, safety or legality of lessons themselves, for any tutor's or student's conduct outside the platform, or for agreements, payments or disputes between users. Our total liability arising from use of the platform is limited to the amounts you paid us for the platform's own services (for example, Credits) in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where the law does not allow it to be limited.
12. Governing process and contact
If a problem arises, please raise it with us first through the contact page — most issues can be resolved by reviewing the platform record together. Formal disputes about these terms are handled under the laws applicable to the operator named on the contact page, in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you a different forum. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining parts continue to apply.
13. Privacy and other policies
Our privacy policy explains how personal data is handled, and our cookie policy explains the cookies we use. Questions about these terms: see the contact page.
