Safety and verification

Trust on a marketplace has to be earned by process, not promised by slogans. This page explains exactly what we check, what we cannot check, and what you can do to stay safe.

How tutor profiles are reviewed

  1. A tutor creates an account and verifies their email address.
  2. They complete a profile: identity name, headline, biography, subjects, levels, languages, rate and location.
  3. The profile sits in a review queue — it is not public — until an administrator approves it. Profiles that are incomplete, misleading or inappropriate are rejected or suspended.
  4. Only approved profiles appear in search and can apply to jobs.

Review is a human check of the profile as submitted. It is not a guarantee of teaching quality, and it is not a criminal-record or identity-document check unless a profile explicitly states that a document was verified. Always use your own judgement: ask questions, start with a trial lesson, and check a tutor's reviews from completed jobs.

Reviews you can rely on

A review can only be left by the student who posted a job, after that job is completed with the tutor they selected. Tutors cannot review themselves, and we do not publish testimonials collected outside this process.

Staying safe

  • Keep early conversations inside platform messaging so there is a record if you need help.
  • Do not share financial details, passwords or one-time codes with anyone you meet here.
  • Agree the lesson fee, schedule and cancellation expectations in writing before lessons start.
  • Be cautious of anyone who pressures you to move off-platform immediately or to pay in unusual ways.

Contact numbers and WhatsApp

  • Your phone number is never public here. A student's number is shown only to teachers who have applied to that student's job; a teacher's number is shown only to students whose jobs they applied to. Applying costs teachers credits after their first free application — one of the ways we keep numbers away from people with no real interest in the job.
  • Once a number is shared, treat WhatsApp contact as you would any new contact: agree lesson details clearly, do not send advance payments to someone you have not verified to your own satisfaction, and come back to platform messaging if anything feels wrong — administrators can review platform conversations for safety and dispute resolution.
  • If someone uses a shared number to spam or harass you, report it to us with a screenshot and the job link — misuse of contact details is a suspending offence.

Children and parents

Accounts are held by adults. When lessons are for a child, the parent or guardian holds the account, communicates with the tutor, and should be present or nearby for lessons — especially first lessons. We never ask for a child's own contact details, and tutors should communicate with the account holder, not directly with a child off-platform.

If a teacher or student misuses contact details

A contact number is only ever revealed to arrange the lessons for one specific job (see the terms) — and every reveal is recorded in our audit log. If someone uses your number for spam, marketing, off-topic messages or harassment, here is what to do:

  • Block the conversation on the platform (the block control is in the conversation) and block the number in your phone if needed — you never have to keep talking to anyone.
  • Report the user from their application, profile or conversation, or via the contact page. Include what happened and, if you can, screenshots from outside the platform.
  • What we do: an administrator reviews the conversation record and the reveal log (admins can review platform conversations for safety and moderation, as the privacy policy explains), then acts on the evidence — warning, suspension or a permanent ban, plus forfeiture of remaining Credits for teachers. Where conduct may be unlawful, we may report it to the relevant authorities.
  • If you ever feel in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first — then tell us.

We cannot guarantee that every user will behave well — no platform can. What we do is limit who can see your number (only teachers who applied, or the student whose job you applied to), log every reveal, and act on reports. The community guidelines describe the conduct everyone here has accepted.

Reporting a concern

If a profile, job, message or review concerns you, contact us with a link to the content and a short description. Reports are reviewed by an administrator, who can hide content, suspend accounts, or remove users who break our community guidelines. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
